Catalogue & Courses

How to navigate the e-learning portal

The Catalogue is the full library of courses, everything course Care Academy has to offer can be found in the Catalogue - this includes both mandatory and non-mandatory courses.

You’ll see a few different course types whilst navigating the Catalogue, these are as follows:

Courses

These are your standalone accreditations, things like Fire Safety and Moving & Handling. When you go into a course, it’ll give you a brief description of what this course is going to cover and how it’s going to support your work in care.

Feel free to start any of the essential courses when it suits you by simply clicking open. This will take you across to the very start of the course, or if you’ve already started it, it’ll take you to where you left off.

Can’t remember what you’ve started? Well each course will come with it’s own progress marker, whether its ‘Not Started’, ‘In Progress’, or ‘Complete’.

Work through the course at your own pace and take in as much information as you can, as courses will end with an assessment that’ll require a pass mark of at least 80% to receive your certificate. Don’t worry if things don’t go right the first time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain your accreditation in your chosen course.

Attempting to access a non-essential course? You’ll need your team leaders approval for this one. Simply click ‘Enrol’ to register your interest in the course and your team leader can approve your enrolment from their end.

Curriculum

Think of curriculum as a learning package or a bundle, they’re specific sets of training laid as stepping stones to an end goal. If we see the Care Hires Mandatory Training just below, it’s laid out Care Certificate Standard 1 through 15, followed by other mandatory courses such as Moving & Handling and COSHH.

You’ll see that each course will have a small description for you to read, letting you know what it’s about and, alongside this, a way to view a bit more detail about it. Curriculum such as these can be set up to be completed in a specific order or, like this one here, set up in a way where you can do whichever course you’d like to first.

The aim of setting up training in this way is to give you a learning pathway that takes you on a journey to a predetermined achievement which, in this case, is attaining the Care Hires Mandatory Training.

Events

Another training type you may see is Events, these are hosted webinars or training sessions. When you click on an upcoming event like the Care Academy Learner Training below, you’ll get a summary of what it’s going to be covering, where/when it is, and also how many spaces there are available:

(you’ll see this one is going to be a Teams meeting on the 28th January at 9:00am)

Some events will have a few sessions available, so you can have a look through and see which date works best for you, or if you’ve missed the first one it means there’s a few opportunities to get involved. When you’ve found the session you like, you can go ahead and click enrol.

If you can’t see a session that suits you? don’t worry, you can click ‘Register Interest’ in the top-right and you’ll get email notifications when a new session gets posted.

Tasks

Tasks are your assigned actions, if you need to do something that maybe we don’t cover on Care Academy, tasks will point you in the right direction.

Each task will give you a summary of what you’ll need to do, why you need to do it, and how it’s going to benefit you as a care professional. See the below example, to ‘Complete Moving and Handling Practical’ - this will require you to seek the certification from an external provider and complete it in a classroom setting.

Once you have undertaken the course, you can then create a submission of what you learned/achieved and upload any certificates or supporting documentation for your completion of this course.

Once you have created your entry you can, this will pass it through to your approver for their sign-off.

This one of the ways in which Care Academy seeks to bridge the gap between e-learning and practical training. Meaning all of your training documentation can be stored safely in one location and boost your attractiveness as a worker in care.

Links

You’ll sometimes also see Links, these are a way for you to access materials that our outside of Care Academy, but vital to your learning experience with us. When you go into a link, you’ll usually see a description of what the link is to, and why it is important for you to view.

If you click ‘Open’ it’ll take you straight to the learning material so that your learning experience can begin. Note, that once you’ve opened the resource, it’ll be marked as ‘Completed’.

If you’d like to view the material again, simply mark as incomplete (left), and you can go ahead and view the material again.

When you are in the Catologue there are a few filters you can use to refine your search. You can:

  • Sort order by due date, modified date, newer training, older training, status (so in progress, not started, complete etc.) and title (a-z);
  • You can also filter by category, so what kind of training the course covers, whether that is compliance, hospitality, foundation skills etc.;
  • You can view by training type, which will allow you to filter out certain course content like curriculum and links;
  • Finally you can sort by status, if you just want to pick up where you left off you can choose to just see in-progress courses. Or if you’d like to see those you haven’t started, you can choose ‘Not Started’.

Alternatively, you can just search for the training you want using the search bar function on the home page and in the catalogue section:

The purpose of these refining tools is to narrow down what you want from the system and make this process as seamless and simple as possible for you.
